Getting Started

Setting up your Synchrophasor:

The package you received ought to have contained one synchrophasor and three cables: a Cat-5 cord, power cord, and GPS antenna.

Make sure you plug in the ethernet cable before you power up the unit. The GPS antenna can be connected in whatever order you like, but make sure the antenna is in a window with a clear view of the sky and that the window is not electromagnetically shielded.

If your network administrator requires the MAC address of devices on the network, you can find that information on the sticker on the back, below the unit number.

When to expect data on the webpage:

Data will only be sent to the server when there is a valid GPS lock, in order to assure accuracy of phase measurements. The GPS module has two status LEDs to inform the user about its lock: red and green. From the user manual for the module:

  • GPS Status Red:
    • Long red flash for invalid GPS fix
    • Short red flashes for satellites tracked, but not used in solution.
  • GPS Status Green:
    • ong green flash for a valid 2D/3D fix
    • Short green flashes for number of satellites used in solution

If data still isn't being reported on the website after a valid GPS lock is obtained, please confirm with your network administrator that the device has an IP address and has access to the Internet.
